Rainbow Body

We held our first Rainbow Body practice with a queer sangha. The Rainbow Body comes from the Tibetan lineage, primarily Dzogchen. The simple explanation is that it’s a practice of the Five Elements teaching. The components of matter—air, earth, water, fire, space—can be understood as five colors of light: green, yellow, blue, red, white. By doing this practice, we transform our understanding that though we have bodies of matter, we are actually bodies of light (e=mc2, matter is energy; energy emits light). We used an image of the Water Dakini Rainbow Body accompanied by Tibetan chanting (Om Ye Ra Ma Sa Siddhi Hung) and drumming. Participants were encouraged to chant and visualize themselves as having Rainbow Bodies of light.

We plan to do more Rainbow Body practice with the queer community in the near future.
